It's been a little while now!

It all works, thanks TechDud and cdod, both packages worked, I did end up using 307709 I believe.

None of those passed the driver signatures, had to acknowledge on install.

Anyhow, it's a little blurry for me now, this was done 2 months ago but if you need more info I could help!

That driver you mentioned cdob seems to offer updates including SA2 & AFA. over the R307709 package, although not as much as the Fujitsu driver. That driver matches MIXER.ini & ALTMIXER.ini as well as uci32a84.dll.
He's importing the Win7 .cat file from the original, as well as a modified inf and 3 .dll's. At least the executable is properly signed, so still a chance for 2k3 support?

Congratulations!

Ah, it would seem that you decided to mod the whole thing. I see now in AFA\AFA\ the existance of "AFAXP32.cab". I failed to see that before. That seems to cement the fact that this package was (at least at one time) partly intended to unofficially support XP. Rather sporting of dell, actually. If only it were that easy for the USB 3.0 driver.

This idea of yours is still somewhat in a "proof-of-concept" phase. It needs a little more research (& wall-time); call it a "testing" phase. Try some media with differing audio codecs to verify output. I see that this would be worthy of including in the Sound DriverPack.

Could you give these HWid's a try on a fresh install? I think, if successful, should preclude earlier HW from installing this driver when added to DP_Sound.
Of course, i am assuming here that this driver won't work for older chips.

It would be good to know if you are receiving any odd issues or errors. Check the Event Viewer to be certain, if you have not already. Also, what of Driver Signing (from Device Manager - incl. Driver Files button)? I assume that with the .cat from the dell driver & the Digital Signature in the chdrt32.sys that at least all the files show as WHQL.

I'm not certain if i will have time to work on Sound, yet if you post a new Topic in the DP_Sound forum and label it
"[REQ] add this conexant driver fix ... for example". In your post, ensure that you include the link to the file from the OEM.

This way the install worked using the latest driver from Dell for Win7 but I had an error about some package on every boot, even though sound worked.

Now I searched for the latest dell driver for CX20641 for XP and found CONEXANT_AUDIO--CX20641-CX20_A02_R307709...
Now I modified the Win7 original .inf from Dell and put this file in the extracted R307709 folder along with the corresponding .cat file and the 3 .dll's, launched setup from within the R307709 folder and that worked!

AND it also installed SmartAudio2 (instead of SA3 from the win7 package) and on every reboot sound works, smartaudio works, even jack detection! No errors!

So yeah I'm really happy with this and thought it was much easier than it seemed to be...
I really don't get why the refuse to package xp drivers correctly, this would take them just a minute and I'm exagerating!

Any chance to see this in a new XP package soon?

thanks for the explanation but I meant to say monitors which do NOT have HDMi!!

Sorry for that! It would cost less to use usb sound cards around 10$ than buying hdmi to analog converters!

I think we'll probably just use usb sound until a driver comes or maybe even start a Windows 7 pilot group here to get things going and eventually move on to Windows 7 at large...

I tried different things with inf, such as swapping the hwid's for the one I'm trying to install, trying a valid inf for Windows 7 in the XP driver but I think something else does not permit the install, it must be doing some authentication or maybe the registry keys it's not decoding as being authentic as I do not understand those...

It sounds like you are making some progress with the .INF files. I have known similar frustrations, as have many others that post here (and far beyond, of course!).

One thing about HDMI. You need to plug in the cable ends before it can be usable as an Audio Device. It doesn't always switch so nicely in XP, from what i've read, yet a restart all-but guarantees the switchover (unless a prob. w. EDID, iirc) "just-in-case".

I do have an HDMI port just not using it and sound on those will be used with headphones and/or monitor which do have hdmi.

So you think playing around with ini files and maybe registry entries could be the solution?
With a lot of trying different packages it seems to have semi installed Dell audio (SA3 i think) but it gives an error every boot, I'll remove it just in case.

Remember, any experimentation, you do at your own risk (and/or you employers).

That said, there is, in existence, if i get this correct, a CX20641, a CX20642, and a CX20641/CX20642 (dell, iirc).

The .inf files are probably the only ones needing editing; to add your SUBSYS & REVision. There are also some Registry entries that would need updating with the Vostro270 original entries (if applicable).
MIXER.INI & ALTMIXER.INI are the same compared to the official w7x64 driver from dell.

Ensure you manually install only the driver in DeviceManager. Choose to "Manually Install" & indicate that you "Have Disk". Sometimes, if you get a Volume Icon in your SystemTray, yet no audio, you may need to check your Audio Properties. If the AFA or SA3 packages are causing problems, comment out those sections necessary and try again.

a side-Note:
OEM's are offered multiple choices in configuration of many Audio solutions. They tend to take advantage of the customizations wherever necessary and/or advantageous. Often they reuse these customizations and apply them to a variety of models (Chipset-dependent). There are also those which only apply to few models for a variety of reasons. Supplies of the chips themselves do change over time as new designs are realized, or old designs improved or updated.
Operating Systems and their unique Driver Models & Signing Requirements (including Cipher-strength) often change, dependent upon Windows major &/or minor version. The Driver Signing itself can be upwardly compatible. Audio drivers are often Manufacturer-specific concerning Notebooks & Tablets, as well as TouchPad (& Touch?) drivers. Manufacturers tend to focus their driver team(s) to release drivers for Operating Systems that are current, and not already or soon to be decommissioned (although Embedded XP is officially supported by MS into 2016).
I'm no expert, yet that is a distillation of what i've gleaned over time.

From your response "no" concerning HDMI, i reason that you don't have an HDMI connector on the back of your Motherboard. HDMI does usually include an Audio Device. The clear advantage of this is the one cable. Installing a PCIe Graphics card with HDMI is another potential solution (nothing fancy or expensive, or POWER-Hungry - you might only have a 300W P/S). If you have made it this far, still stymied, an addon-card or USB solution may be the last of the options available today.

side-Note #2:
How has your experience been with Intel USB 3.0 so far?
That could be a reason for adopting 7 earlier (no, i'm not a salesman), as that is the only Windows OS with an available WHQL'ed driver.
It is not just the Audio that you have no proper driver for concerning XP. Any other Windows OS is currently limited to USB 2.0, if it is set in BIOS (uEFI?).
I am uncertain of linux support for your particular intel Chipset, though it seems likely.

Not using hmdi no, hehe.

I do have an inf for xp but it still gives errors...
I do have .net all versions up to date.

KB888111 shouldn't be needed unless I'm wrong, SP3 should need to run the KB since it's already applied.

BIOS is up to date.

So I went to download the Fujitsu driver for D3171-A but it is for CX20642 and not 20641...
I thought maybe playing around with hwid's in the ini files to change for mine, but that doesn't work...!
Maybe there's more to it that I don't know?

Audio add-on card, or USB audio as alternatives? If the driver doesn't exist yet, what can i do other than to wait on it to be publicly released. I tend to think that a modified driver .Inf file may not be enough here. What can one do other than to gather a bunch of driver "candidates" and installing them manually (as opposed to Automatically). Use Explorer to search the *.inf files for your HWid VEN_14F1&DEV_50A1 for any candidates already in DP's.

Perhaps another OEM has already released it; with or without your specific HWid included.
That is truly the "game"; finding relevant drivers!

If you do manage to find a working driver, don't forget to request us to add it to the DriverPacks.
If i find a candidate for you, i will not hesitate to post it here.

PS: I wonder if your BIOS is up-to-date. If you are unfamiliar with this procedure and it's risks, skip it.

PPS: I do see that Fujitsu has an [ H] package WHQL'ed for XP for it's D3171-A mainboard, so XP support is possibly as "easy" as a separate .inf file specifying your HW to be installed manually; yet of course it is either up to MS or the OEM to release a driver. It could even already be on their FTP, for all i know. Probably best to find another [G] package, athough i'm no expert on Conexant audio.
They note to install KB888111 before installing a driver, though. I thought that was already included in SP3, though minus two obsolete files.

PPS: You wouldn't be using HDMI, by any chance, eh?

Hardware id's in windows show rev_1001.

To clarify, we wanted to deploy win7 for some time but aren't quite ready yet so we need to use XP for a little while still.

Now the questions;
Since these works in linux, is it a good sign that it's possible to have sound in xp?
Why is it using Intel's driver? Is it really? Why?
Also, looking at how the chipset works(B75) it does seem like it has indeed HD Sound (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ … ipset.html)
So what does this means? It has sound on the chipset but also a seperate Conexant chip?
I'm a bit confused!

That appears to have been manufactured within the 20th week of 2012, so it is likely a new mask.
Please post your HWid's, as this is possibly noted as a new "... &REV_xxxx".

Try a linux live CD (such as linuxMint, or Knoppix, etc.) to confirm .

Wait a moment; did you say that you want to deploy Win7?
If so, this Topic is posted in the wrong area of this forum.
Shouldn't you be using the DriverPacks for NT6 (and the appropriate tools)
if you want to deploy Win7?

I looked in the inf and see the hw id's are indeed with SUBSYS_10280582

Virtualization is not an option for us, we wanted to deploy win7 but not now as we have many things on our shoulders but I guess we will have to prioritize this now... We wanted to rethink GPO's with new server 2008 R2 prior to deploying win7...

I wonder if they have issues with linux kernel's running this?

What does it say upon the audio chip itself?

Another clue, perhaps, is contained in the .Inf file from the dell driver for your model.

If dell declined to release an XP driver for this hardware, it may never be released.
Other manufacturers may have released an XP driver, although that is increasingly unlikely.

Have you considered virtualization as a solution?
