try a linux live CD like linuxMint to confirm. Be aware that you may need to manually adjust the volume upon startup. Heck, if it works, you might not even need Windows.

Do you have dual boot on your laptop (win XP and win 7) ?

If so, does the sound work in win 7 ? If it does it could be drivers stopping sound in XP. But from what I've read it sounds more like the sound card has failed.

Hi, I know that xp do not support the new instruments, but find xp much better than windows 7 and I also have also windows 7 than 2 operating system on my hp, but with xp, I get better right and to security I have 2 also ne operating system on it if one crashes.

You have to remember that XP is not supported on those new HP systems, though their driver clearly does work on XP.
Your best bet is to restore the system back to factory defaults and use Win7. It's 1000% better than XP.
If the sound still doesn't work in Win7 then contact HP for warranty repair.

You might consider researching HP's forum for answers.
If this fails, you could try using mr_smartepants' SAD2 utility & the appropriate driverpack.

DriverPacks also allow people to add drivers to their original install media, creating new media with updated drivers. DPs_BASE works for Windows XP media.
