well to create what i wanted is not possible at this point
( a SAD that could be installed ina ny PC and used to install or update all drivers while offline)

however the SAD does sorta still work, but the issue with the sound was a problem
I had a dell PC with an unknown SM bus driver and none of the DELL drivers would fix it
i threw in the SAD and it eventually fixed it however since it had all the drivers it trashed the sound and a rollback was not available
... (luckily the sound was avaliable from dell)

I am not sure what else to do... I am not even sure why it fails...

I wish I had a machine with this (or similar) issue so I could test myself.

the only thing i am sur of is it is certainly related to some difference in process between DPInst.exe and Setup.exe

Edit the DP_Install_Tool.cmd script...

find this line
Start "MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer Tool Running" /wait /separate /realtime /min CMD /C DPInst.exe /c /s /sh /lm /el /sa

add /f

Start "MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer Tool Running" /wait /separate /realtime /min CMD /C DPInst.exe /c /s /sh /lm /el /sa /f

save and test

yes i simply replaced the dpinst.exe and reburned the CD

the issue only exists still with the video (sound went properly)

HOWEVER I DID FORGET TO MENTION
the SAD got hung up on universal pug and play i had to shut it down

add /f switch???

Your feedback is more apprecieated than I can possably tell you!!!

Did you use the same script to call dpinst? (at least the same command line and same DPInst.xml?)
IE did you simply replace DPInst.exe with the new one and run DP_Inst_Tool.cmd?

So the issue still exists with sound and video... did you try adding the /f switch?

using the replacement dpinst.exe
1.
i had to click on next for new hardware found
i had to repeatedly click continue what non digitally signed drivers were found
basicaly it was NOT unattended

2.
it did install the video and sound

3. when i rebooted the video was all messed up again
stuck at 4 bit.
I had to perform a driver rollback/ then reboot
then the nvidia driver and control panel were accessible

True... And that is how you can help us to help you!

We know that DPInst does not always yield as good of results as Setup.

What we don't know is if we are not using it correctly, or if it simply does not work as well...
I was hoping you could help us find that answer .

If it is our misuse of DPInst then I would like to make the proper adjustments to our usage.
If it is a failure of DPInst then perhaps we can get MS to fix the bug!
There is a newer version of DPInst available. Perhaps it is already fixed...

(we are distributing ver. 2.01 that link is for ver. 2.1 which was released for Win7 compatibility, but may help us with XP too )

Only someone who is experiencing a failure can determine what will help / or fix our issues.

You have done everything the way we recommend!!! There is no known issue with your process at all.
Again two possable issues here
1 - Perhaps we have made a mistake.
2 - perhaps it is a bug with DPInst.
Can you please help us to figure it out?

I know much emphasis has been put on the video drivers, but remember the sound doesn't install correctly either from the SAD.

I was more concerned if i was creating the SAD incorrectly.

for the meantime, i can continue to use:
modded OS > driver extraction > OS > install extracted drivers

its more time consuming but yeilds the results.

It is possble that a different set of command line switches (or .XML entries) will yield success...

But we are not able to test since we don't have a rig that fails... Perhaps this is an opportunity for you to help us?

Well, if the normal DriverPacks integration works but the SAD install does not, then this is similar to what proximous was reporting a few weeks ago. The built-in XP nvidia drivers (null driver) are in fact interfering somehow with the newer driver install. I don't know what I can do about it, but I'll keep digging. I have a gut feeling that the problem stems from the dpinst switches that we're using or the dpinst xml settings. Using nlite for driver removal is only a temporary answer, not a solution. The nvidia .inf files are unmodified.

I can only recommend that you use the normal DriverPacks install method.

yes i always reboot

it is after the first reboot that the display goes to 4 bit

The question was...

After you run SAD, do you reboot the computer, at least once?

@Erik - He indicated above that a normal slipstream of the DriverPacks does work .
