Well... That time and effort would not be abandoned, Since UBCD4Win is simply a very well done build of BartPE.

Everything you have learned and all the plugins you have accumulated will still be VERY useful with the UBCD4Win version of BartPE. In fact your experience will be very helpful and all of it will still apply since it is still just BartPE. the difference is that they have already put all of the plugins that are 'must haves' and their dependencies in for you in advance. IE the DriverPacks are included in the download, because obviously what good is a BartPE build without our DriverPacks .

You will simply now apply what you have learned adding the plugins you like, assuming they are not already included, and many of them probably are already in there (again like DriverPacks). If they are not already included you can apply what you already know to add them.

The thing of it is that it is so well done. Starting with a strong basic build makes everything else so much easier. Since there are hundreds of thousands of users for UBCD4Win you don't stumble into the pitfalls of reinventing the wheel. Thousands of issues you may have already encountered or would have soon encountered have already been addressed by their team with the feedback of their large audience. IE large blank spaces in the txtsetup.sif. You will find that a Disc built with UBCD4Win will boot much faster than a normal BartPE build because of the post PeBuilder process's that will be run. Things Like the INF optimizer, which will also run on your plugins that you choose to add .

Think of it like this... You want to build a Street Racer. You have the choice of either starting with a Camero or a Corvette . Obviously the Corvette will require much less time and effort to be invested to win races. Likewise any experience from building a Camero would still be useful to help with building a Vette, and many of the parts would also be a good fit . But in both cases the vehicle is still a Chevy with the same basic V8 engine one is just a better basic build to start with!

Mark and Overflow,

Thank you both. Your explanations have really advanced my understanding of the build process as well as the advantages of using UBCD4Win. You know, you just put so much time into understanding, accumulating plugins for, and researching a particular system that it's hard to abandon all of that time and effort.

I guess tracking down the LAN issue is a short term solution while changing to UBCD4Win is long term.

Overflow is right on the money when he says that UBCD4WIN is "the good stuff".

The developer of UBCD4WIN (Ben Burrows) bought a license from BartPE author Bart Largerwij and went further to include DriverPack support and many more plugins and programs that make the process of building a rescue CD/DVD at least a little easier. But we can all agree - this is NOT the simplest thing to do, making a PE-based boot disk with driver support and applications. I strongly suggest you take what Overflow is saying and run with it.

Sometimes I have a tendency to get mired in a particular method for doing something, and what I've learned over these many years is that I must defer to the experience of others who've walked my path, seen the same (or related) issues and found their way clear to the Finish Line. I've used BartPE but VASTLY prefer UBCD4WIN as it is more complete, has the great DriverPacks already built-in, as well as many troubleshooting and system cleanup utilities.

I think Helmi or Mr. Smartepants said something along the lines of "what do you need in a bootable PE disc except LAN, chipset and mass storage drivers?", and I agree. We're not supposed to be making an OS that will live on a hard drive and be used 24/7. We're endeavoring to develop a powerful tool that can save our bacon when we need it most, and these folks at DriverPacks have been working to support those efforts for years. THEY KNOW, we can learn from them, and they want you to succeed, as do I.....

I have been using a retail (full) XP Pro SP3 folder as the basis for my UBCD4WIN builds for years now, and I discovered early on that if I nLited it or modded it in ANY way, it wouldn't work, and UBCD4WIN would throw arcane errors and fail to build my desired ISO image. OEM versions are problematic, according to Burrows, so use a REAL retail version, NOT an upgrade or OEM version, and you'll be that much closer to your goal.

I will continue to monitor this thread (as I do several here) and offer my humble experience when they may be of value or help focus some research. I know what it's like looking for answers. Google and Bing are your friend, but only if you ask them the right question, which itself is a bit of an art form. <grin>

Good luck, and thanks again to the DriverPacks crew for some wonderful technology, dazzling insights, and the occasional laughter-filled thread. (I just read the exchanges with falconfour.)

Mark Strelecki
DriverPacks True Believer
Atlanta, GA. USA

LOL This is BartPE... logic does not apply
The simple answer is it is possable for more than one driver to match a HWID.... First match wins. Change the load order and you change the driver that is found and matched first... simple (no PnP logic or driver signing is available nor can it be used in PE)

answering the first question will help clarify
Naturally you would not find the entire HWID. Laptops also because often the chips are modded to save power ETC. The OEMs sign an agreement to make ther chips so that they will run correctly on reference drivers as part of thier license agreement but often times they will not. Sucks to be us!

Does it mak sense now that it has been explained... Nope. good. It doesn't make sense to me either and I understand it ROFL...

if you do like i said and use UBCD4Win you won't have all that blank space in your txtsetup.sif and yes it is normal.
However UBCD4Win runs an INF optimizer that elminates blank lines and comments to save space on your disk...
Again no sense in killing yourself only to produce an inferior disk Start with the Good stuff an work from there !

I might be flogging a dead horse here, but I'm thick, so please bear with me.

Being a neophyte, these questions perplex me:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Bart supports only LAN and Mass Storage even though additional choices are available on the DPBase driver selection page for PE. Posts regarding this are a bit old and I may have overlooked something.

Once the DPBase is used to create the plug in it can be reconfigured from within PEBuilder plugin tab or DPBase can be used, does it make any difference?

I have tried the DPBase slipstream method, my config #1, but the driver for the network card, on board, fails to install. When attempting this procedure, I had deleted all folders within the \pebuilder\drivers and had deleted the \plugin\DriverPacks.net folder as well so that the plugin would rebuild completely. Is there a better way for me to identify and correct, or at least report the problem in a more cogent fashion? Because the nic is onboard, could it be a chipset driver is required?

One additional question, somewhat off topic, I don't really grasp the following three options:

DriverPacks MassStorage text mode for stand alone disk.(which I use frequently, thank you)
* I tried using this to install the LAN drivers on the computer I am having problems with but no drivers installed

The difference between method 1(copy) and method 2(dummy setup) for stand alone disk, such as "method 1 is really good for...", or ,"method 2 has a major drawback..."

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Sorry for being so obtuse. I really appreciate the help.

Sincerely,

froshcoach

Well you're really beating yourself up trying to do this manually...

DriverPacks BASE will build a proper plugin for you!

read the DriverPacks BASE BartPE tutorial in my signature...

I apologise for being away from this posting for so long. I have been working to resolve the issue and would like to share what I have found.

First I would like to say I appreciate the efforts all of you make on behalf of techs like me who work across a multitude of hardware and software platforms. I am grateful for the information and work product you share. I have learned quite a bit and am still learning. I'd like to get this right and so have a few more questions.

My original post had a glaring omission in that I failed to include the fact that I am using Sherpya's XPE plugin. After reading the response to my original post, I decided to recreate totally my PEBuilder(v3.1.10a) files, my Sherpya plugins ( http://www.collewijn.info/xpe/main.php ), and some modifications
( http://www.howtohaven.com/system/custom … e-cd.shtml ). I surmised that I had corrupted some files somewhere by using both RyanVM ( http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack-sp3.html ) and nLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/index.html ) to trim and enhance the build. After the reconstruct I was able to create a bootable image.

Next I endeavored to add DP's to the image. It was at this point that I realized that there are two methods to include the drivers, extract the drivers from the DP zips into the appropriate folder in \pebuilder\drivers\LAN - Scsiadapters or by just using the DPBase. When I used the DPBase slipstream method, the LAN drivers were not installed. When I used the extraction method, there were build errors, below. At this point the experimentation began.

I am using DPBase 8.12.5, DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z and DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901.7z. I have also tried DPs_BASE_90201.exe which failed to boot at all, and DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_1001b2.7z, DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_100125.7z.

I tried four different configurations:
                               Slipstream \drivers\folder
1 LAN - MS
2 LAN MS
3 MS LAN
4 LAN-MS

I would like to concentrate on method 3.

When doing the build having placed the extracted LAN drivers into drivers\lan the following errors were encountered. I include only the errors to save some space:

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Processing INF file "C:\pebuilder\drivers\Net\NV3\nvenetfd.inf", class "Net", provider "NVIDIA", version "04/06/2005"

There appears to be a suggestion that the Joshua plugin which I found here
( http://www.drowaelder.de/winpe/PEIndex.htm ) will work, but I don't know how to implement this plugin correctly. For example, I have extracted the indicated files

( Copy the following files into the plugin\NForceAll-RIS-V2\files directory:
nvnb5032.inf, nvefd2k.sys, nvnrm.sys, nvnb5032.tag.
nvrisxp.inf, nvenet.sys, nvcoe.dll, fdco1.dll, nvuenet.exe, nvenet.nvu, nvenet.cat
remove all other nforce network drivers if you use this plugin !)

from the NForceAll-RIS-V2.Cab into the \plugins\NForceAll-RIS-V2\files folder but I don't know what to do with the files in either of the zips, NVIDIAMCP73_RIS_v6753.zip or RIS_2K&XP_V471.zip . The instruction, "remove all other nforce network drivers if you use this plugin" seems to imply that the LAN drivers need to be in the \drivers\lan folder and that the NV folders should be deleted.

So here's where I stand currently, I have a bootable BartPE using the DP slipstream method which does not install drivers for the nVidia nic, HWID's following. Also, I have another computer that boots BartPE fine but cannot see the raid array. Here are my questions:

1. Which method is preferred/best method to include the driver packs?
2. Is the Joshua plugin OK and how do I handle the plugin files and other drivers?
3. Is there any additional information I can supply?
4. I have read that it's difficult to add drivers to a pack but can I add individual drivers via a plugin and if so, which DP integraton is better?
5. What can I do to help?

I cannot thank you enough for any help and I hope the information here is helpful to someone. HWID's are below.

Sincerely,
froshcoach

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

nVidia not installed on this machine:
