There should be no issue with adding a patch that may or may not be used...

In fact I am going to sticky this so I can remember to add this patch to DriverPacks BASE. Much as we include kb888111 for xpsp2.
I need to add a few patches for 2k3 also.

Also on a side note. I did just verify again that you do have to have the KB835221.exe installed before this will work.
Is there any harm in integrating that into machines that don't need it?

So i went another route for a while but was just checking in. It seems that the sounds packs still haven't been updated,
current sound packs are 805 here the betas from this thread or 906b4, any word on getting them live?

THe HWID of the sound card was not present in the pack b3, also in the api.log, it has not found any compatible drivers for this device. so i have included it in the testpack b4 which i hope it works.

I would be happy to test and provide result + API log if it fails. I probably wont have the opportunity until Monday however.

It still did not appear to work
I tried it pre KB835221.exe and post neither worked
I then tried my 3rd party driver pack just to double check and it worked.

On a side note, while all this works on a clean image now, with SP3, KB835221, and my 3rd party pack, this doesn't work on my preconfigured image.
Thoughts?

I need further testing but i think it actually worked after a reboot after i installed KB835221.

No, the updated sound packs still did not work. I tried before KB835221 and after.
I did however create a 3rd party pack containing the drivers from DRVR_WIN_R216291.EXE and that did work only after the KB835221.
I currently don't have the time to piece together the setupapi.log but here is a copy of it.

That log is from trying to install after KB835221 when using the beta packs.

Do me a favor please...

Try our latest nightly builds of the sound packs when you reload...
These nightlies are looking good for becoming Release Candidates (RC), (last testing phase before release )

You will not be able to fit your setupapi.log in a single post... you can either trim the fat to make it fit or spread it over three or more posts. obviously it is better for you to trim unrelated portions and just post the relevant parts . We are easy, do either...
