Well, the odd thing is, installing from INF from directly in the Hardware Update Wizard and it works perfectly - and that is from either the drivers I linked or from the ones included in the 8.05 DP. Apparently DPInst isn't the absolute same thing as installing from Device Manager as some have said, or possibly I'm using it wrong (though there really aren't a lot more options to set from the ones I have tried). Not really sure where to go from here unfortunately. I really really don't want to put the DriverPacks back into my image and have Mini-Setup do the installs for me, that will grow my image by approx 600mb.

we need academy for a LOT of things, and this is one of the examples we have to adress.

20 years of dabbling at hardware and 16 years of windows install have learned me that YOU need us, and that I need YOU..
Hardware goes wild.
WHQL for XP? None for Vista?
We still deal with WDM and older.
DriverPacks have had the decency to not drop support for old (sometimes non whql/seldom not even WDM) and tried get the best combo up.

There is going to be a time that ancient hardware is not used for windows 2000.
I am 52. I figure that will be in 2015 because the hardware will then be reallly really obsolete.

Old hardware tends to outlive manufactor support.
People stay and I'll be 115 by the time my micronized mobo implant fails.

I've noticed that lexmark printer drivers don't install properly from INF...SHAME ON YOU LEXMARK. I feel much better now.

It may be that the driver comes with an installer?
So if i have guessed correctly then we may need to call that installer from the finisher...
In which case this will require editing the ini in the sound pack to call the installer...

I'm using SP3, and not including 888111 in my install manually (so not downgrading what should already be there). And btw, I just tested this out using the driver from the link above, and it did the same thing. Hrm, I think you are right, it isn't a driver issue, it's a method of installing the driver. E.g. OverFlow's fault.

HDA is installed by KB888111 with xpsp2 and is included with xpsp3

can you at least tellus which is your current source (IE this does not seem to be a "driver" issue)

Hey guys, having a problem with the above device using Sound B 8.05 DP. It installs just fine using DPInst, but no sound can be produced (Windows is just using the Beep driver for everything). It's under the SMD4 folder where it's being identified, and Windows says the device is working properly, but under the Properties tab of the device, and then properties of each of the multimedia device in the list, you'll see the problem here:

I downloaded the drivers from this link:

They are from 2006, not from 2007 like in the DP, but seem to work fine. I have also sent these to JTDoom in a zip file.
