it has been fixed by them several times

it may be that you need to update your definitions in the installation package... or get a newer installer from them.

Has anyone heard anything from AVG? i had this issue last night and its doing my head in.

i keep thinking of workarounds e.g. installing AVG after finisher but that should not be needed

i understand the point in mute.exe but is it required. is there anyway to remove the mute.exe or is it an integral part of the finisher

You need to report this to AVG as a false positive.

As you said this has happened before - and was reported and fixed once.

Let us know your progress with them.

I don't use AVG on the server that makes the ISO's, so no problem there.

But when I am testing the new CD's in a VM, it fails with a File not found during the Finisher Run after 1st login.

Upon further investigation, I found that the problem is AVG is already running on the new machine before the runonce finisher runs, and then prevents Mute.exe from running, and this crashes the finisher.

After the desktop comes up, I disable the resident shield on AVG and run the finisher that is sitting in the root directory and it finishes fine.
