Maybe it was when a member and Erik implemented widescreen support in Graphics.. which was then no longer an issue?

The only method I used to implement widescreen support was in the ATI driver, specifically the mobility.inf file which covers all cards not officially supported by ATI Catalyst. 
It had nothing to do with DPBase.

I can add widescreen support (member must provide EXACT HWID and resolution) to prevent incorrect/unsupported resolutions leaking into other cards.

Description;     Windows XP Setup program may stop responding during video driver installation
When an OEM performs a factory installation of an OEM version of Microsoft Windows XP, or when you use a Sysprep image to install Windows XP, the Setup program may stop responding during the video driver installation process.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a problem with the Video.inf file. If a driver is signed, but the driver does not include an .inf file that describes child devices, such as monitors, the installation may stop responding.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table.

if the updated Newdev.dll from sp3 fixes it i won't bother adding the hotfix.

ps the hotfix consists of;
replaceing the i386/newdev.dl_ with the hotfix version
and if we were living right createing the registry entrys @
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB883667

This may also help with laptop installs...
