Right, just tried lastest packs on D820...
Definitely using correctly modified sfc file, correctly in %windir%\ststem32 and %windir%\system32\dllcache
Also using the reg file to change to magic number (as far as i know this again now has effect due to patch)
It makes no difference I still get things fail at rank change to 0x0000e001

Mr Smartpants,
My test rig (vmware) is up to date with everything, patched with latest Autopatcher and also windows updates.
If anyone else can see if they get e001 rankings and dont have issues at least I know the issue lies with me?

Also I was mislead about my 'patched' sfc_os.dll file in above post, I had downloaded, it turned out to be same as original, from

I have just now patched an original winxp SP2 .dll myself, copied it to system32 and system32\dllcache and changed the SFC reg entry. I shall test it on Monday at work.

I could be wrong, but I still think this is a 'driver signing policy' issue. When the windows installer encounters an unsigned driver, it will continue to look for a signed driver and if it finds one (even an ancient one) it will use that instead of the more recent unsigned one. Has MS changed the method of scanning for signed drivers? The method that the DPbase uses to disable it doesn't seem to work anymore?

Ok, just tested again, I replaced sfc_os.dll with the NOP'd one and it made no difference whatsoever.

Could someone look at their setuplog.api and tell me if they see any instances of a ranking change to untrusted like....

#I087 Driver node not trusted, rank changed from 0x00002001 to 0x0000e001.

..but with the driver still installing automatically?

I think that would be a good idea, however as the finisher is running in the same fashion, and all other things being equal, I cannot see how the problems are connected to sysprep?
Most everything seems to boil down to drivers not installing because their ranking is too low? [I am summising this because with the HW wizard they are found and installed ok]

Oh, I don't use sysprep so someone else with experience in that utility will likely have to assist.

I have G_A 7.07 test3 built and ready to upload. Just need some more feedback on the previous test from other users to tweak it first.
Major change - G\N\2 & N\5 are gone. All folders merged into G\N\1 (unified WHQL drivers 162.18) with .inf files compared and updated to single nv4_disp.inf (desktop) and nv4_go.inf (mobile). Significant filesize savings!

There was also a flaw in the G\N\5 folder where nvucode.bin was not renamed after decompression (remained nvucode.bi_). That would have caused issues.

I am running the finisher with sysprep/mini-setup so its allready had makePNF and devicepath ran, hence the oem \inf entry.

What gets me is this line:

Where are you getting "oem670.inf" from? It certainly is not in the G_A DP.
Do you have any other drivers in there?

Helmi, could you be abit more explicit in what you mean?
In sysprep I have
UpdateInstalledDrivers = Yes
DriverSigningPolicy = Ignore
(although I thought this made no difference since SP2?)
makePNF has ran so presume thats not an issue either.
Why does every other unsigned driver work fine except this?

The best solution is to disable the Signed Drivers Policy right along with the System File Checker.
(nLite does this for me)

Nothing but trouble through them and the gains are close to none (plus, there are a lot of WHQL drivers that still don't work properly or "as expected"...).

Looks like the .CAT file is screwing things up. Windows will try to match signed drivers before unsigned drivers. Damn!
The .CAT file contains HWIDs but not ALL the HWIDs contained within our nv4_go.inf file.

I'll look into a solution but I'll need help from the rest of the team.
