If your svchost.exe keeps on using 100% of your CPU, you may want to acquire a patch from Microsoft. You still need it even though Microsoft continues to release new updates that fix, maintain, and upgrade your operating system. In addition, you may want to get a registry cleaner to avoid further computer problems.

Thanks for that, first post edited accordingly (always remeber to right-click and "Copy Target" instead of highlighting and copying out of fora because they usually only display the shortened link!).

I have that on all the PCs I administrate.
I have yet to check this remedy (read about it elsewhere before but didn't come around to testing).

In any case, I sort of thought this was intentional (not a bug but a feature...).
I can't even remember when this started, feels as if it'S been forver like this...

It doesn't really affect any of the dual core systems (obviously, since only one core gets full usage) but the slower single-cores mean you cannot use the system for a good 15min after booting.
Also, switching auto update to merely once a week (I am wondering why there is no monthly option, seening as patchday is only once a month anyway and MS refuses to even release critical patches in-between ) does not help, only completely turning it off.
Wouldn't be much of a problem but I'm not always there to apply the latest patches and I don't have a dedicated server I could use for WSUS, yet...

Gonna try the patches now, I'll report back how it went

We've applied KB927891 on all of our systems (a lot) due to other problems it fixes. I'd recommend it as standard to be honest.

BTW, this patch is included in RyanVM's latest update pack (2.1.10).
We hammered it in testing and it's solid.

My dad has this issue on his school's laptop (he's a teacher). Unfortunately, the school has a strict admin policy: only THEY can access the admin account. The normal accounts cannot touch Automatic Updates settings, so I'm kind of stuck I hope the IT department will fix it properly this time (which would be a first...).

This fixes the problem with MSVHOST taking 100% CPU resources (Windows Update Service)
(this problem has been getting worse for the last 2 months)

It will ship on May 22nd but is being issued on MSDN right now.

I downloaded and installed without problem and it fixed the CPU usage problem I was having.
